When in 1973 the US Supreme Court, in its Roe and Doe decisions, overturned the anti-abortion laws of all fifty states, relatively few Protestants voiced opposition. There were a host of Catholic terms and objects that have meaning with Catholicism with which I was completely unfamiliar: offices, the magisterium, mortal and venial sins, confession, penance, rosary beads, the saints and martyrs, and even, yes, Marian theology. Several groupings of Baptist churches would soon emerge, but many remained unaffiliated as community churches. In the early 20th century, a less critical reading of the Bible developed in the United States, leading to a "fundamentalist" reading of Scripture.

From the beginning of the New Testament Church, the Churches of God have generally believed that God reveals all (or parts) of His plan of salvation during His annual worship calendar. The answer to "what is the root of the problem here", is that neither Protestantism nor Islam has any central authority. This assembly achieved various tasks whose effects are still felt today: lt adopted a Confession of Faith, modelled to a great degree upon Calvin and later named The La Rochelle Confession of Faith; it also established a Code of practice (a rule for the life of local congregations and for their relationships one to another) which would be progressively modified but which is still basically in use today - in it the system of church government is presbyterian and synodical, with authority jointly exercised by local (presbyterial) councils and by larger synods. ln contrast to what would happen in many countries where the whole Church, often under pressure from the civil ruler, went over en bloc to the Reformation, we find French Protestantism to have been composed of a variety of communities that arose from nothing, more often than not with the old parishes under Rome's authority still co-existing alongside.

The Laodicean ageno real commitment to covenants and contracts. This false belief was first espoused by John Nelson Darby in 1827. The Dutch Baptists trace their spiritual pedigree up to the same source. BOOK X, CH VI, PETER'S AUTHORITY (1st century): "But I should like that one of you, and not Peter, should answer what I have said; for it is not fitting to take words and instruction at his hand, with questions; but when he gives a deliverance on any subject, that should be held without answering again.

In the Middle Ages the Catholic Church taught that salvation was possible through “good works,” or works of righteousness, that pleased God. Consider the verse, "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels: and then will he render to every man according to his works." IF YOU SEND A QUESTION PLEASE BE THOUGHTFUL ENOUGH TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT. Beecher believed that a “great evangelical assimilation” was coming to the United States. [William McGloughlin Jr., Modern Revivalism (Providence: Ronald Press Co., 1959), P. 37.] It was known as the “Christian Union.” The Baptists largely rejected this idea fearing they would violate their principles.

In the contemporary church, Protestantism has been the term applied broadly to any church that is not Roman Catholic. Scripture forms the oral part, and the writings of saints, decisions of ecumenical councils etc. are also part of it. Even though, being opposed to God, the tyrant stands in hostile array, continually urging on against her his soul-destroying soldiers, still, against each one her protector sets up in rivalry one of his shield-bearers and defenders, who is easily able to ward off that one’s hands. (One of these, in particular, will be mentioned shortly.) It is clear, accordingly, that the error of idolatry was undone by the victorious and holy martyrs.

In the account of the Synod of Whitby in his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, Bede describes the showdown between the Irish Christianity epitomised by Saint Columba and the international Roman brand of Christianity which had been brought by Augustine. How then do we believe or not believe the next person who also claims the same inspiration? The creator of the website pointed to a verse in 1 Corinthians that, when I looked at it on the screen, I thought, that can’t actually be in the Bible, can it?!
